Isolation of mycobacteria from undecontaminated specimens with selective 7H10 medium.
Media containing antimicrobial agents have been formulated for use as an adjunct to the standard media in an effort to reduce contamination and improve isolation of mycobacteria from clinical specimens. Selective 7H10 (S7H10) was developed for use in the isolation of mycobacteria from undecontaminated material. During a 33-month period, 10,782 clinical specimens were cultured in parallel on S7H...
متن کاملSelective medium for the isolation of streptococci from clinical specimens.
Incorporating neomycin and nalidixic acid into a blood-agar base resulted in a medium highly selective for beta-hemolytic streptococci under conditions in which detection of streptococcal colonies by conventional means would have been very difficult.
متن کاملComparison of the Lowenstein-Jensen Medium, the Middlebrook 7H10 Medium and MB/BacT for the Isolation of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (MTB) from Clinical Specimens.
INTRODUCTION Tuberculosis (TB) is the most common cause of death due to a single infectious agent worldwide in adults. India alone accounts for 30% of the global tuberculosis burden. There is a need for a method of cultivation of mycobacteria that is reliable and economical and has a short turnaround time. OBJECTIVE The present study was attempted to assess the feasibility of using MB BACT an...
متن کاملNovel selective medium for isolation of Staphylococcus lugdunensis from wound specimens.
We compared a novel selective Staphylococcus lugdunensis (SSL) medium with routine media (blood and chocolate agars) for the detection of S. lugdunensis in 990 clinical specimens (from tissue, pus, or wound swabs). Significantly more S. lugdunensis isolates were detected on SSL medium (34/990) than on routine medium (7/990) (P = 0.001, McNemar's test).
متن کاملGlycine-containing selective medium for isolation of Legionellaceae from environmental specimens.
Glycine, at a final concentration of 0.3%, has been shown to be an excellent selective agent for the isolation of Legionellaceae. Stock cultures of Legionella pneumophila were not inhibited on buffered charcoal-yeast extract agar containing the amino acid. Among the other Legionellaceae tested, only one of two strains of L. dumoffii and two of six strains of L. micdadei were appreciably inhibit...
